ISO 9001:2008 – Quality Management System

Abstract:

Specifies requirements for quality management systems. The requirements are generic, i.e. applicable to organizations regardless of size, type, industry, product or service. A quality management system that meets the requirements of AS/NZS ISO 9001 can be used for internal application by organizations, for certification and for contractual purposes. It focuses on the quality management system’s effectiveness in meeting customer requirements, and may be used to demonstrate the ability to meet customer requirements, prevent nonconformity and address customer satisfaction and quality improvement. This Standard is identical with and has been reproduced from ISO 9001:2008.

Revised after 8 years! AS/NZS ISO 9001 has been updated to address the needs of business and the community. It can help improve efficiency, boost customer confidence in products and services and increase staff morale and productivity.

Quality Management Principles

The standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement.

Using ISO 9001:2008 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.

Audits

Checking that the system works is a vital part of ISO 9001:2008. An organization must perform internal audits to check how its quality management system is working. To get certified with ISO 9001: 2008 an organization should be audited against the standard to verify that it is in conformity to the standard.
